Agri-Business Communities Development (ABCD) Project at Northern Iloilo

The ABCD project is a continuity of ABC project covering not only youth but also farming families (women and men) and adding four additional focus products aside from vegetables, namely: 1) seaweed, 2) native chicken, 3) herbs and, 4) banana.  The project covered not only capacity building/technical assistance but also grant giving intended for start-up capital for women and community enterprises.  Five (5) value chains were covered for upgrading and combination of regular staff and on-call consultants were engaged to contribute in the early and long-term recovery of victims of typhoon Haiyan.   BizFTC became the Facilitating Partner of CARE Philippines in this project.

Participatory rapid market appraisals, value chain analysis, technical and financial proposal preparations, implementation of livelihood and community enterprises, monitoring, evaluation, learning exchanges, accountability system development were facilitated by project team and on-call consultants.  More than 4,000 farming families have been engaged by the project benefiting additional income and learning experiences.  Before the end of the project in 2016, TaytaysaKauswagan Inc. (TSKI) was referred to CARE Philippines to continue the VCs facilitation role and explore value chain financing as next step for sustainability.
